A day in my life.

It is 8:40 p.m. Wednesday night of 10-13. I wish to inform you about a day in my life. I choose Thursday Oct 7th 2010. So... one week ago it was Oct 6th. I was winding down from the beggining of the week dreading tomorrow. I currently work in a reception hall which specializes in wedding receptions. However my boss has many friends in politics so we find ourselves working hard for certain politcal professionals.tomorrow would be the biggest party we have every year. My boss has called me repeatedly over the last week asking me about my availability due to the fact that i am taking a thursday night class that happens to coincide with exactly when the food is to be served. So my worries at this point are. How will my 4 month old son do with the babysitter tomorrow. My fiance and I were required to get a babysitter because this is the only time i have to work on a thursday and she is already scheduled to work at her job at Houlihans restaurant in Fairview heights. I show up at work at 9 a.m. first this is set up. So afew of us head up to the St.Clair county fairgrounds to set up the room for 1,000 people party. I head back to work to start cooking chicken at 1. Im the head fry cook at my job which doesnt mean much except that its my job to keep the fryer clean and running. From 1 to 6 im frying chicken 9 cases of chicken to be exact. At this time im exhausted from sweating over fryers in what had to be a 90 degree kitchen. I get a ride home at 6:30 enough time to change and go to Belleville Swic Campus for my night class. Class is over at 10 as i rush out the door straight back to work. I arrive and there already packing up the food. The service part is over! all we have left is the cleanup. We pile everything up into the van for the first trip of three back to work. Once there we unload as fast as possible. I made Three and half long coolers of chicken for the party only half of one came back. Half of us get to cleaning up the dishes, pots, and pans. While the other half head back to pick up the second load. After washing out 10 coolers, putting away countless boxes, tableclothes, doing three loads of silverwear things started looking up. Ive done this party for the past 4 years. Every year we become more efficient and hire more staff even though the number of people eating decreases. Usually 2 a.m. for this party would be a good time to get off but, this year worked hard and finished around 12 thankfully. This year i brought a friend to help work this party. after a long day at work we both decided the night was still young enough. We both headed to some of our favorite night time places. We started at Stoney's a local Belleville bar that sponsered our softball team this fall. after arriving we were informed last call was just called. We drank one beer each played a game of golf on the video machine and headed out. Our next stop was Tim & Joe's however they were already closed at 1 in the morning. So we headed next door to Shenanigans which was a bar neither of us had been to before. Once inside I proceeded to kick his ass at pinball for a hour until we called it a night and went home That was a day in my life.

  1. Wow, I thought I had a busy schedule with me going to school and working second shift while my wife works weekends and a few half days during the week while we both pitch in to take care of our three kids. I enjoy my classes and the job is okay but whew it gets very exhausting. I feel your pain man but just keep in mind that things will look better once the degree comes through for us. That's all I have to say for now, and keep up the good work.
